Microsoft will likely use SwiftKey’s technology to bolster its own AI-based products, including its Word Flow keyboard and virtual assistant Cortana. For example, having seen the phrase ‘Let’s meet at the airport’ during training, the technology is able to infer that ‘office’ or ‘hotel’ are similar words which could also be appropriate predictions in place of ‘airport’. The free Word Flow app displays the keyboard as an arc, intelligently suggests the next word, auto-corrects mistakes and promises to get better over time. SwiftKey launched its predictive auto-correcting keyboard app on Android in 2010 and iOS in 2014, which works by understanding how words work together in context and continually learning to improve its knowledge. In theory, users type in a few words, such as ‘party time’, and the keyboard will suggest icons that fit perfectly with what you’re trying to express.
The Play Store listing now reflects the new name and you’ll find the same in the app itself. The icon has changed from a gradient green to a dark blue and the spacebar now reads “Microsoft SwiftKey” in place of the logo that was previously there. The branding is pretty much everywhere else you’d imagine, too, including throughout the app’s settings. The changelog for the latest update also mentions support for new emoji on Android 10 which is the only other change here. Another setting that makes it easy to add emojis is the emoji prediction.

Before uninstalling the Samsung keyboard, you can download a third-party keyboard from the Play Store such as Swiftkey or Google Keyboard. These seem like minor issues, but it created a cascade of frustrations on my iPhone 4s. In fact, I got so frustrated while trying to compose a text message that I toggled back to the reliable territory of the stock Apple keyboard. While using Swype, I got the feeling that its ability to predict my text and interpret my gesture typing was superior to SwiftKey out of the box.
We require Full Access because your Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard stores language models, personalized learning and keyboard preferences outside the keyboard extensions framework on your device. Without this permission, the keyboard extension would not be able to read or write to these files. Granting Full Access to Microsoft SwiftKeydoes not mean everything you type is transferred, despite a warning message that shows when you allow the permission. Swiftkey recently announced that their Artificial Intelligence software will start predicting in three more languages. This will allow users to use up to five languages simultaneously, adding to the capacity of conversational intelligence.
